Paper Cut - My Art Car!
WAY back in the day I turned my beloved Saab into an Art Car! It's a long story, and I am loath to go into too much detail.. I'll try to be as brief as I can...
I had spent many years cutting tiny gold origami paper squares into filligree. It all started because I learned Hawaiian quilt design from my mother. In their designs which are typically inspired by botanical motifs which are stylized and cut from single pieces of fabric, then appliqued onto the larger quilt.
This method of folding and cutting captured my imagination and so began my obsessive cutting. It was a meditation that sustained me during a dark time. I had made hundreds! WHY you might ask? Why do I do anything... It is and always has been beyond my own comprehension. I just follow my mind, hands, soul, gut, and allow it to manifest itself regardless of how futile it may seem. To organize them, I put them in a book, and kept cutting...
Years later when I went on a Mid-Coast Maine Eccentric Artist Tour I was introduced to the concept of Art Cars, you'll see the Art Car that inspired me in the slide show below. Well, that concept boiled, brewed, and bubbled to the surface of my consciousness and before I knew it I was making my own Art Car!
I called her Paper Cut. Here she is.
Sadly when she died, I kept her in our driveway for a few years, but finally had to let her go to the great trash heap in the sky.
