Encaustic Collage

This series is inspired by weaving... by the tapestries made from antique Sari's I found while travelling in Nepal... by the amazing and intricate creations made by Bower Birds... by my two years spent teaching and travelling in Taiwan...  by tangents and alleyways, and juxtapositions of the old city with the new architecture and technology...  They are a mash-up of these things.  They are densely packed and over the top.  The senses drenched in texture, color, line...

• Some Bower birds are attracted to a single color and will go around collecting small bits of only blue - found objects, flowers, paper... - they will  fashion an alleyway made from reeds or grasses, out front they litter the entry way with these blue bits. I find this amazing and mind boggling. They are the artists of the natural world - they create these elaborate spaces intended to attract a mate. Different species of bower birds create different types of bowers, elegant and gorgeous.
• I began making these works that have bright shiny elements, very ornate not with birds in mind - but the bower - the attraction factor - the small parts together to create the whole.
• These pieces are also in the realm of Tangent - these movements from one space to another - alleyways, doorways, from and into and away from - passage of time - passage to another didimension...
• Tangent is also is about how the mind works and thoughts and that one thing leads to the next with some connection but also a distinct difference -
