The sweetest little chicken you ever met!
We hope this little story will inspire everyone who reads it to love, respect and care for our animal friends, both in the wild and in our homes. They can bring us so much joy!
Our pets are some of our dearest friend, and we need to care for them every day with love and kindness. They offer us so much in return: Loyalty, companionship, humor and unconditional love.
Daisy was a special breed of chicken known as a Blue Andalusian. Her feathers are a beautiful silvery gray-blue, her legs too! She has always been the friendliest bird in the flock, with a personality to melt even the hardest of hearts. So, last winter when she had what I can only assume was a stroke, there was nothing to do but move her in the house with us. She lived in our home from mid-January until early April. Her condition was dire and I did not think she would make it. But I took the best care possible, with an attentiveness that kept me in tune with the nuances of her condition. At first she could barely hold her head up, and would fall into spasms that would wrack her little body with heartbreaking tremors and convulsions. Her neck would twist and get stuck in the completely wrong direction! Each day I would hand feed her, clean up after her, talk to her, just be with her. Now almost 1 year later, she is the picture of health, and you would never know she had had anything wrong! I hope this little story will inspire everyone who reads it to love, respect and care for our animal friends, both in the wild and in our homes. They can bring us so much joy!

Here are a few of the paintings I did for the first iteration of the book. Initially I wanted to paint and draw the images for the book. But I was not happy with them, and opted for digitally altered photographs instead. All in all I am happy with the results, and I love my little book!
