A TABLE to a CRADLE to a TABLE
True story:
when I was born (1962) my father made a cradle for me out of our dining room table. When i outgrew it we passed it along to be used by many friends and family over the years. I remember being jealous and pining for it, i remember wanting it to hold a baby of my own (A baby I never had) I remember wondering where in the world it was. I know it went missing for a number of years, And I worried about it. Then in 2007, When I was 45 years old my parents presented it to me as a gift with a note about its creation. It was much worse for where, And I had no idea what to do with it, So I stored it, Moved it from one place to another, Never having a concept for what to do with it... And then 17 years later (2023) Decided I really needed to do something with it. ?But what?? Well a few conversations later and it was suggested, By my niece Emily, to turn it back into a table! Okay I LOVED this idea! And yet it's still took me a year of disassembling, fussing, configuring, frustration, boxing it up and setting it aside, ,Then , In the summer of 2024 I said to myself, Laura, You've got to see this through! And I finally did, and now I've got the perfect centerpiece coffee table for my (new in 2024) attic studio! I made a rule with myself that I had to use every piece, and so the hardware and extra components I epoxied to the underneath of the top of the table (The top is removable) And another moment of chills I realize that it was made for me in 1962 and I remade it in my 62nd year of life. (WOW!)
