Taiwan - Chinese Brush Painting

I lived in Tainan Taiwan for about 2 years from 1998 to 2000. I went there without knowing a thing about the place... within a week of arriving I had a job teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at Geng Hsin language Center. The school provided me with a place to live, and a friend had procured a motorcycle for me to get around on! Within a month I had full medical and dental insurance. That's right, socialized medicine, even for ex-pats! I had never taught English before, so I had no real qualifications other than being a native American English speaker. It was a daunting and exhilarting experience. While there I decided to learn Mandarin,and my teacher introduced me to a painter in her 80's, Agnes, who taught me Chinese Brush Painting. Below is a sample of some of the paintings I made, and below that a little taste of my time in Taiwan. |
