These pieces are all made using repurposed wood, and some have cardboard elements. I started this series when we added a second floor to our former residence - there werer So many great scraps left over! Whenever we are building something and there are scraps of wood left over I scavenge them, often adding texture with the band saw. The pieces are arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way, glued and/or nailed to a substrate. Then layers of encaustic are built up on the surface creating a deeper yet smoother texture.. Finally I complete the surface with a wash of oil stick, and/or pastel, and/or mica powders.
