Franklin Street Art Space

FSAS welcomes a solo show by Laura Dunn in August. "Laura is one of those artists who is never far away from her work, who is constantly seeking beauty in everyday objects, common and discarded materials...to me, Laura is prolific, never stopping in her endeavor to create. The things she comes up with are sometimes craft-like, sometimes high-art but always thought through with the intention of finding something beautiful within...whether it be a chunk of leftover scrap wood, a piece of metal, shopping bags...Laura finds a way to twist these things into something new." -Tammy Ackerman, FSAS curator

Laura Dunn
10.24x14.5 inches
Materials:Cotton, Plastic Grocery Bags, Packing Wrap, and Toilet Tissue
A weaving from a series of works made by the artist from ready at hand and recycled materials allowing these otherwise thrown away materials to reveal their inherent beauty.
I just discovered that a web blog dedicated to monochromatic, minimalist work has linked to this image! - A pleasant surprise for this April Morning 2011. Have a look at this lovely blog called NEUTRAL NOTES

for years I have been making this art that drives me - fills my soul - sends me flying high up to the ethers... I Iet my ideas flow like water over rocks, and the stream and trickle collect and pool and turn into new forms - new realms for meandering visual thought

Encaustic paintings and constructions![]() Wax, like water, flows... moves and changes and pools and collects - it has a liquid quality even when solid and that uncertainty informs my world - and the belief of a life in flux and constant change - I embrace this concept and roll with it
