The Museum of Temporary Art
The Museum
The museum itself is located in a home in Germany It is about 40x50 cm big and has 33 compartments. The website is a representation of what is currently in the museum, i.e. the compartments. The Idea Most of the objects in the museum are linked to a memory or anecdote which increases their actual value far beyond the materialistic one. The museum is a chance to give such seemingly meaningless objects the platform they deserve. They are Temporary Art. The Contributors Anyone, who is able to see beyond the surface and is willing to part with such an invaluable item and its story. See more at the MOTA! |
I contributed many times over the years. Below is one of my contributions (and a slide show with other objects I contributed) The project was an ambitious one complete with gorgeous, high quality, catalogs published, in color, every 100 submissions and sent to all who participated. After the 100th submission the museum held and exhibition and ended the project. I really miss it!
Light by Laura Dunn, USA
exhibit Nr.31 Description: Glass bottle, filled with Mica, silver cap. Comments/Origin: My sister Suzen gave this bottle to me while on vacation in New Mexico. I came across it recently & decided to immortalize it @ the Museum of Temporary Art. I call it Light for several reasons: #1) it looks sort of like a light bulb (& I love + collectlight bulbs), #2) it is transparent and reflective comprised of glass which lets light into homes via windows, which used to be made out of Mica and #3) I just went to see an art installation @ a Mill titled Light . So that is on my mind still... Oh yeah & #4) it weighs almost nothing! very light! |
