Setting Free the Dress
a performance piece
We were married on August 4th 2005. It was a secret wedding right up until the day of the wedding. A low key, down to earth, no frills sort of affair. I bought my wedding dress for $3.00 at Goodwill, and we hired a JP tp officiate. The only attendees were our parents, and Peter's kids.
The following weekend we had a celebration during Illumination Night in Ocean Park at my folks cottage. We purchased an over the top fun poofy, sparkly wedding dress, and Tux jacket, rented a disco ball, popcorn machine, keg of beer, and surprised all of our unwitting friends with the good news of our nuptials!
Ten years later I pulled the dress out of moldering storage, and we took her to Corn Canyon, our property in the western Maine mountains, and we set her free - Floating down river... (not to worry we did not let her stay in the water or the flow) - only long enough for the performance and then rescued her, dried her out and returned her to Goodwill for the next person to enjoy.
It was a liberating process!
